🇮🇹 Fred Warburton e la sua guida James Hannan conquistano ufficialmente un posto nella delegazione Paralimpica della Gran Bretagna di sci alpino per Milano-Cortina 2026. Dopo aver vinto nella stagione 2024/2025 il Campionato Italiano e quello Statunitense raggiungendo i criteri di qualificazione, è riuscito a strappare un posto per il grande appuntamento del 2026.
La stagione è iniziata con un terzo posto a inizio dicembre a Kaunertal, in uno slalom FIS, disciplina tecnica che ha sempre messo un po’ in crisi Fred. Subito dopo le prime gare di Coppa del Mondo e il primo vero scalino da superare: un livello completamente diverso rispetto a quello a cui eravamo abituati.
Da qui la stagione ha quindi preso una piega totalmente diversa: più allenamenti, più ore in sala pesi, nutrizione più controllata e la realizzazione che ancora nulla era deciso e che avremmo dovuto sudarci quel posto alle Paralimpiadi.
E così è stato! Esattamente un anno dopo la vittoria dei Campionati Italiani a Pila (AO) 2025, è arrivata la tanto attesa convocazione che garantisce a Fred la presenza alla sua prima Paralimpiade.
Dalla riatletizzazione del LCA all’ingresso al Villaggio Olimpico, dalle prime gare FIS alla discesa alle Tofane, segno che se tutti i pezzi del puzzle combaciano il disegno si chiude perfettamente.
Appuntamento quindi al 7.03.26 con la prima gara di discesa libera, seguiranno Super-G, Combinata Alpina e Gigante.
🇬🇧 Fred Warburton and his guide James Hannan officially secure a place in the Great Britain Paralympic Alpine Skiing delegation for Milan–Cortina 2026. After winning both the Italian and the United States Championships in the 2024/2025 season and meeting the qualification criteria, he managed to clinch a spot for the major 2026 event.
The season began with a third-place finish in early December in Kaunertal, in a FIS slalom, a technical discipline that has always put Fred somewhat in difficulty. Shortly after came the first World Cup races and the first real step to overcome: a completely different level compared to what we had been used to.
From here, the season therefore took a totally different turn: more training, more hours in the weight room, more controlled nutrition, and the realization that nothing had yet been decided and that we would have to sweat to earn that place at the Paralympics.
And that’s exactly how it unfolded. Exactly one year after winning the Italian Championships in Pila in 2025, the long-awaited official selection arrived, securing Fred’s place at his first Paralympic Games.
From ACL re-athletization to entering the Olympic Village, from the first FIS races to the downhill on the Tofane, a sign that when all the pieces of the puzzle fit together, the picture closes perfectly.
The appointment is therefore set for 7 March 2026 with the first downhill race, followed by the Super-G, Alpine Combined, and GS.
